Walking at an increased speed, I reach the entrance of the store and then for the buggy. I start the whole mental game of, ok what did I write on the list? I take a deep breath and try to visualize what I wrote and in what order ( I make the list according to how I navigate around a particular store so, I don’t forget anything). I’m a list maker, more than likely the product of my OCD, I make list for everything, and I mean everything. Anyway, as I start down each aisle grabbing things, I’m pretty sure were not on my list, I began to notice, I am not alone! At that point needing some encouragement, well really a friend, I strike up a conversation with a lady that seems to be struggling with the same dilemma. We began to discuss how each of us take the time and effort to come to the store prepared only to leave the list laying right where we wrote it, on the table. Ugg... How frustrating right??

The Time Use Institute 2008 reported that on a typical day 32 million Americans shop at the grocery store, that is one 1 of 7 Americans. Each person spends an average of 45 min per shopping trip, that’s 3 hours per month and 36 hours per year we spend at the grocery store. Eeek… According to another study by Post It Note Company in 2013, they reported that forgetting your grocery list is one of the top 10 things people forget. Why is it important to remember our grocery list. Going to the grocery without a grocery list has been proven that you:

-waste more time shopping

- typically spend more, because you buy things you do not need

- typically do not get what you went to buy in the first place

-create unneeded stress

-typically purchase foods that are less healthy

So how can we work to solve this problem….

  1. After writing your grocery list put it immediately in your purse, pocket, or somewhere you know you will have it on you. (I’m a paper and pen kind of gal) so writing it out is my preference. There are ones you can download and print just search printable grocery lists.

  2. Go online and make a shopping list through your grocery store (Kroger I know for sure offers this service).

  3. Make the list on your phone but don’t forget your phone, LOL

  4. Download a shopping APP, some of the most popular ones I found in my research are OURGROCERIES, BUYMEAPIE, and OUTOFMILK (I personally haven’t tried any of these so let me know if you do and how they work).

So, the next time you forget your grocery list, take a breath, look around, and know your not alone. Until next time, HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY. Follow me on FACEBOOK at https://www.facebook.com/aBeautifullifewithHeather/
